Anne, Mareike, and Kai are very different, but they share a common goal: the Wheelchair Basketball World Cup 2018. The film accompanies the three wheelchair basketball players for a year on their journey, which is about more than sport.

“Basketball on Wheels” meets his protagonist at eye level and invites the audience to a change of perspective. The film asks about the limits in wheelchairs and in life. Because every athlete has his own individual goals and challenges – not just on the pitch.

Anne Patzwald has been playing wheelchair basketball since an accident and has come back to life through sports. For the 28-year-old, who works alongside the sport as an occupational therapist, it is clear: “I am much more than just a wheelchair user.”

AB Mareike Miller dreamed as a child of a career as a basketball pro. After four cruciate ligament tears, she now lives on this dream in a sports wheelchair and was already successful at the 2012 and 2016 Paralympics.

Kai Möller comes from the small town of Ellingstedt in Schleswig-Holstein and, despite his innate disability, decided early on to become a professional basketball player. For him, wheelchair basketball offers a way to discover the world.
